The gap between my expectations and the actual impact of a film has never been wider. There were so many possibilities in casting two of the greatest actors of our time – and they couldn’t bring any soul to the film either.
Both characters were very flat and I felt very little emotional investment in them
The script and score were completely forgettable, despite Pugh and Garfield brilliantly playing what they were given. The back-and-forth timeline made the emotional journey feel incomplete as there was no tension or stakes to invest in.
I hope someone puts them together in a future film and gives them a better chance at creating a masterpiece
I had high hopes and was counting the days for this film, and when I left the screening I was sorely disappointed. Check out our list of exciting new films from this year’s film festivals, including Venice, TIFF, New York Film Festival, and more.
