This show has only the most tangential connection to the original series
Narrative
Follows Madeline Matlock as she rejoins the workforce at a prestigious law firm, where she uses her cunning tactics to win cases and uncover wrongdoing. Gender reassignment in the original 1986 TV series of the same name, Matlock (1986), starring Andy Griffith as the title role of criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock. For legal reasons they had to give Dean Hargrove « based on the series Matlock ». credit.. To hire Matlock at a New York law firm, they would have had to verify the status of her law license through one of three official mechanisms, each carefully managed by the state.
Remake of Matlock (1986)
This would include verified identity, address, current license status, disciplinary actions, etc. As soon as I saw that Kathy Bates was going to star in the Matlock reboot, I texted my mother asking if we would watch it together. We live in different states but watch shows together from time to time. And I think this would be a great choice. I love the idea of an older woman returning to the working world.
Let me be more clear
Especially a woman in the 70s! I’m not a fan of legit shows, and while I’m sure at 54 before DVRS, when we were a captive show audience, we’d rather not watch, I’ve inadvertently, by accident, watched. an original Matlock episode or two. But I was definitely not a fan of the show. That being said, I jumped in because everything I’ve watched with Kathy Bates, *Misery*, *Primary Colors*, *Dolores Claiborne*, etc., etc., etc., has been great.
I watched the pilot and loved everything
So I was counting on *Matlock* to be great too, or Kathy Bates not involved. Not having watched the original *Matlock*, I had nothing to compare it to. I’ve watched law shows and police procedurals that moved so fast and were so complicated that I got lost. But *Matlock* is slightly windy and I was right with all the turns. Thankfully, none of the characters are annoying or extremely unpleasant.
is like *Columbus*
As other reviewers have said, there’s a surprise at the end that we can’t talk about, but clues were dropped all the time. If I had to compare the show to another show, I would say this is it. There are times when "Matty" struggling with the changing times, she hasn’t practiced law in many years, and then there are times when she seems to be in trouble for a person to walk into a trap. It’s like Matty said, « No one sees us coming… » YASS senior female superpower!
