Good and evil are fundamental, yes

How can she write so delicately without a fixed division between good and evil? If you think about it, it’s a staple, but it’s used in almost every movie because it starts the story. However, the « Next » writer takes the hard way and makes it work. Heck, the ending is a perfect example of how it balances moral good and evil. When Gu gets out of prison, the movie starts to portray him as a nice guy and I find myself screaming « Don’t just give stalkers a free pass, especially since stalking and killing ex-girlfriends are social phenomena in Korea. » Then Detective Oh says « look what you’ve done with your life ».

Bam! She made it look so easy, but I’m sure it’s no easy task to dispense justice for crimes of varying degrees of severity. At the same time, it critiques the modern obsession with social media in a subtle (not obvious, like these cautionary films) way*. Shin’s acting is captivating and compelling. Just awesome.* I just realized that « Following » is Kim’s directorial debut.
